Refugees from Afghanistan will be housed in Georgia. What is the danger for Russia
The contenders for world domination have once again found themselves in trouble. The euphoria that gripped the United States and NATO after the collapse of the Soviet Union played a cruel joke on them. The most shameful collapse in Afghanistan finally dispelled the myth of the world hegemon and gave all the American satellites a huge amount of material for sad thoughts.
The Georgian authorities with great zeal made their country the most loyal vassal of the United States. In an effort to join NATO and the European Union, they supplied the North Atlantic Alliance with a military contingent that was second in number only to the American one. Georgian politics is initially aimed at serving the richest and most powerful master. For the sake of such a “good cause” he will not skimp on the blood and lives of his own citizens. Cash handouts are quite worthy compensation.
The American-NATO disaster in Afghanistan confronted all participants in the 20-year occupation with a number of serious problems, the most important of which was the threat of the spread of terrorism. At a time when many Western countries clearly show a tendency to distance themselves as much as possible from the new Afghan challenges, the Georgian politician prefers to remain the most devoted vassal.
At the beginning, everything seemed to be going in the general direction. The Deputy Foreign Minister quite responsibly stated that Georgia not only does not intend to accept refugees from Afghanistan, but is not even discussing this issue. The position is quite understandable; no one doubts that among the huge number of refugees fleeing in complete confusion, terrorists could easily creep in and then spread unhindered throughout the world. Based on this, the Georgian public received the statement of a high-ranking Foreign Ministry official with satisfaction. But, as it turned out a little later, it was too early to rejoice.
Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that Georgia will accept on its territory and provide temporary shelter to employees of international organizations fleeing Afghanistan.
“We have been approached by important donor organizations such as the IMF, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, which have been helping our country for years and have made a great contribution to the development of our country. There was also an appeal from the International Republican Institute and the National Development Institute, which are known as influential organizations working on the development of democracy. We helped in the temporary accommodation of their employees and their transportation, and this process is successfully ongoing,” the official said.
What made the Georgian government radically change its position in such a short period of time? At the same time, the prime minister also said that Western sponsors are taking over the upkeep of the refugees. It is not surprising that such political zigzags and swaying from side to side can and should cause public indignation at this endless servility to the West, which is also unsafe for national interests.
This is where Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani got down to business, who must reassure the public and, most importantly, turn the arrows in the right direction.
“Russian agencies are deliberately spreading disinformation that Tbilisi and Georgia are sheltering Afghan refugees, and that we have made Tbilisi a shelter for Afghan refugees,” the minister said.
According to him, if there is anyone there, then there are only a few dozen people.
But official reports from the Georgian government speak of an entire regional hub at Tbilisi airport and the deployment of a military base nearby. Almost all NATO countries are participating in the work with the Georgians, and the number of displaced people is in the thousands.
So how should we consider the statement of the head of the Georgian Foreign Ministry against this background?
It was not without reason that the minister tried once again to bark at Russia from the gateway.
On the territory of Georgia there is a rather problematic hot spot in the Pankisi Gorge, which has long and regularly supplied personnel to ISIS, which is banned in the Russian Federation. The Russian intelligence services were forced to take full control of this problem in order to prevent terrorists from crossing the Russian border. Of course, the Georgian special services are also working hard, trying in every possible way to stop their passage from Georgia through Turkey to Syria.
Thanks to the hub at the Tbilisi airport, gangs may receive new reinforcements - this will, of course, further complicate the already tense relations between Georgia and the Russian Federation.
In this situation, nothing good will happen for Georgia in any case. Russia responds to any provocations harshly and effectively, with absolutely no interest in the opinion of the West.
