Refugees from Shakhtersk: “Why are our peaceful city being bombed. And why so cruel?” (PHOTO)
Donetsk, August 03 (Navigator, Mikael Chagalyan) – Today, several dozen more refugees from Shakhtersk arrived at the refugee reception center in Donetsk. This small city has been under shelling for days now.

There is practically not a single intact residential building left there, the entire infrastructure has been destroyed, people are sitting without water, gas and electricity. For almost a week before arriving in Donetsk, they lived in basements and bomb shelters.
Today, Chairman of the Parliament of Novorossiya Oleg Tsarev, together with deputies of parliament, brought humanitarian aid to people: food, including baby food, household appliances, hygiene items - and talked with refugees.
One of the women asked with tears: “Tell me, why are they bombing my city, it’s so small and harmless?.. Why Shakhtersk? And why so cruel?”
The Chairman of Parliament reassured people by saying that Shakhtersk is already controlled by the Novorossiya militia, but the city is still under fire: “I passed through Shakhtersk yesterday, now the situation there has more or less returned to normal, but be patient a little, live in safety in Donetsk until the weather gets better.”
Here we met a young family from Shakhtersk with a baby who was only 21 days old. It so happened that the child spent half of his life in a bomb shelter. Oleg Tsarev visited the baby and gave her parents financial assistance.
Ivan is 22, Inna is 20. Their little daughter was born on July 11, just on that day there was a lull.
The guys talk with alarm about what happened next: “Vanya went to the store, and I was left at home alone with the baby. Before he could reach the store, they started bombing. He quickly ran back, quickly got ready, grabbed Katya in his arms and ran to her grandmother, she has a house and a basement. We lived with our grandmother for two weeks without electricity. They shot heavily. The windows rattled and the house jumped, and at night you could see bullets flying. We were very worried about the child - after all, she was still so small, and here in the basement and without light. They say that children up to a certain age are indifferent to sounds. It is not true.
When there were particularly strong explosions, my daughter shuddered and began to cry, and then we could not calm her down for a long time. Now her lip and hands are shaking a little, so the doctors prescribed her medication. She was probably very scared after all. When it calmed down a little, we moved to the bomb shelter - it was safer there. And at least there was light there, we charged our phones. The militia told us that it was better to leave with such a small child. Representatives of the DPR gave us a separate car and brought us to Donetsk.”
These people are safe for now. However, in Shakhtersk, as in many cities of Novorossiya, there are still many civilians remaining. They cannot yet be taken out, and what they experience is often beyond description. Fear and horror, anger and indignation - that’s what the residents of Donbass feel every day. And the flywheel of suffering is spinning more and more every day.
