Impunity corrupts. Ukraine is preparing for war and sabotage in Crimea
FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov today, at a meeting of the Anti-Terrorism Committee in Moscow, again noted the intensification of Ukraine’s attempts to commit sabotage in Crimea. What goals does Kyiv pursue, and how will Russia respond to this threat? Russian experts told PolitNavigator about this.

Igor Korotchenko, military expert, editor of the National Defense magazine:
“Russia responds, first of all, by detaining those saboteurs whom the Ukrainian special services send to Crimea. Why are they doing this? First of all, we need to take into account the difficult socio-political and economic situation in Ukraine. More and more people are beginning to understand that Maidan and all subsequent events have led the country to a dead end from which there is no way out. And in order for the authorities in Kyiv to hold on, they need external enemies. The Russian Federation has, in fact, been declared such an enemy at the doctrinal and political level.
Ukraine is really preparing for war, at least the statements made by officials, as well as Poroshenko, the Minister of Defense, the Chief of the General Staff, the Secretary of the Security Council, the Speaker of the Rada - all these are statements of a country that is preparing for war.
Therefore, the escalation of militaristic psychosis is obviously carried out not only in the information sphere, but also in terms of practical instructions from Poroshenko and other Ukrainian leaders to send Ukrainian terrorists to Crimea. This is done in order to show that a “national liberation war” is allegedly being waged there, and accordingly, an underground insurgent movement is operating.
Thus, Ukraine, on the one hand, will be able to divert public attention to the events in Russian Crimea, on the other hand, to portray a victim whose territory was taken away, and then some “rebels” are fighting for its return to Ukraine.”
Sergey Mikheev, political scientist:
“Nothing new has appeared in Ukraine’s actions. Firstly, they need to demonstrate the fact that Crimea is Ukrainian, and therefore act towards a return. This is the first one. But secondly, they see the return as something very strange - as intimidation and all kinds of pressure on the residents of Crimea, forcing them to regret the choice they made. In my opinion, this is a completely unpromising policy, but today’s Kyiv is not capable of anything else – neither from a conceptual nor from a practical point of view.”
Sergey Markov, political scientist:
“There are several reasons why the Kiev authorities are trying to do this. The first is impunity for heinous war crimes in Donbass, Odessa, Kharkov and so on. Those who suppressed and killed a huge number of opponents, nothing became of them, and they are in power today. Avakov, Turchinov, Parubiy are terrorists.
Secondly, two Russian servicemen were kidnapped, nothing happened for it, two soldiers were killed during the breakthrough in August - no one suffered for this, terrorist attacks were being prepared - no consequences.
Third, Kyiv is very annoyed that Crimea is leaving the agenda. Everyone says - let's discuss Donbass, and forget about Crimea. Kyiv wants to remind you that Crimea remains a “hot spot” through the preparation of terrorist attacks, which they want to pass off not as their own, but as the actions of “Crimean partisans.”
Fourth, there is a scenario about first breaking the rise of Trump, then his positive agenda towards Russia by organizing provocations. The scenario of an attempt to provoke a conflict between Russia and the West lives in the souls of these people.
Fifth, the struggle of the most extremist groups in the ranks of the junta associated with Turchinov and Avakov and the GRU of the Ministry of Defense. This is an attempt within the junta to overthrow Poroshenko.”
