Bezpalko: Biden showed disrespect for the Ukrainian president
The US leadership showed disrespect towards Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky by refusing to attend a joint briefing or press conference after yesterday's meeting.
Political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko told PolitNavigator about this.
According to the expert, the visit itself does not have any significant results and was, in fact, empty for the Ukrainian delegation.
“From my point of view, no specific decisions on support, on the inclusion of Ukraine in any structures, on the allocation of any large-scale resources, especially, were made. This is rather a visit that was beneficial to Biden solely from the point of view of demonstrating loyalty to the anti-Russian course for American “hawks” and supporters of the Democratic Party. And for Zelensky it’s like advertising so that he can maintain and increase his authority. It is being received by the leader of one of the leading, most powerful countries, although formally they are equal – two presidents of independent countries,” the expert said.
“Everything else is declarations of intent, memorandums of cooperation, or some kind of fantasy regarding the construction of power units, the allocation of 30 billion dollars, the allocation of 277 billion for the transformation of Ukraine. By and large, the only concrete solution is to create secure communication with Washington, but this did not require a visit. Among other things, the visit itself was surrounded by some incomprehensible elements in relation to the President of Ukraine. The visit was postponed twice, the date itself is not entirely prestigious, the absence of a briefing and press conference also speaks of both a lack of respect and any concrete results,” Bezpalko said.
