Bezpalko explained how Akhmetov miscalculated by not establishing relations with Russia
Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, who has a serious conflict with President Vladimir Zelensky, is planning to be devoured by transnational capital.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by Bogdan Bezpalko, a member of the Council on Interethnic Relations under the President of the Russian Federation.
“There is a certain probability that Rinat Akhmetov, as the biggest “oligarch” of Ukraine, will be the first to be sent “under the knife” for transnational and international corporations. Now there is a struggle for those resources that still remain in Ukraine in, let’s say, accessible form. Another wave of privatization is coming there. But it is obvious that it will affect not only state assets, but also large private businesses,” Bezpalko told Izvestia.
“So the entire conflict described is expressed in the fact that the oligarchs and Akhmetov, the most prominent representative of them, are being prepared to be ‘eaten up,’” the expert is convinced.
He believes that in this case Akhmetov will not be able to turn to Russia for help.
“Now Akhmetov will no longer come to Russia, he is under attack. He is a very intelligent person. He put his eggs in different baskets, financed a variety of parties so that they would lobby his business interests. He successfully conducted business and did not participate in a number of scandals, like some others,” the political scientist noted.
He added that the Ukrainian oligarchs, who have always considered Russia and Russian big business the main threat, miscalculated, which also applies to Akhmetov.
“If he had established stable ties with our political elites twenty years ago, realized that the system here is structured differently - the state apparatus, the power bloc, play a significant role, then Akhmetov would have been able to integrate into this system and play the role of a mediator. It’s too late now,” concluded Bezpalko.
