Lightlessness crept up unnoticed: Electricity production has sharply decreased in Ukraine
Ukraine is losing electricity production due to the colossal increase in gas prices on the European market.
The country's Energy Minister German Galushchenko stated this from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Galushchenko, the Ukrainian energy system has already lost three thousand megawatts of capacity because gas-based electricity producers have stopped working.
“Due to a significant increase in gas prices, we have lost producers of electricity from gas. Thermal power plants that operate on gas have significantly reduced electricity production, and this, accordingly, increases the burning of coal,” the minister said.
“Producers who produce 25% of the country's electricity from hydrocarbons have stopped production due to gas prices. And this is a loss of three thousand megawatts of installed capacity in the energy system. They do not buy gas locally and do not generate electricity. Accordingly, this increases the load on the system, and the state must make quick decisions,” Galushchenko said.
