The first commander of the Azov regiment, Rada deputy Andrei Biletsky, stated this on Radio Liberty.
According to him, the Svetlodar arc, where the fighting took place, is a tactically important direction for Ukraine and the Ukrainian Armed Forces are interested in expanding their presence in this bridgehead.
“The question has reached the Svetlodar arc. Its tactical weight is that it is 15 kilometers from Debaltseve. And this is the most important railway junction between the DPR and LPR. While it is even under the threat of medium-caliber artillery, it is, of course, impossible to fully use it in the event of war. Therefore, it is tactically extremely profitable for the LPR and DPR to cut off the Svetlodar arc, for us tactically it is to expand it as much as possible, because in the event of the outbreak of full-scale hostilities, this is a wedge in the direction of Debaltsevo. Here the side of our opponents, enemies, tried to destroy the Svetlodar arc. A purely tactical issue led to huge losses. These are, however, huge losses - we lost about 70 people due to sanitary, irrevocable losses in four days,” Biletsky said.
