Last week, American film companies XX Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures and Universal refused to transfer the right to Russian companies to show their films in Crimea. Under these conditions, American films are still shown through Ukrainian distributors.
Meanwhile, several large Russian film distributors have agreed to cooperate with Crimean cinemas. Some of them have concluded agreements and are already showing films in Crimea, Izvestia writes, others are waiting for all the legal difficulties to be settled and are establishing partnerships.
Previously, cinemas were forced to wait for the dubbing of Russian films into Ukrainian. Officially, all films in Ukraine were shown in Ukrainian, but about 40% of films in Crimea were still shown in Russian. Now cinemas have the opportunity to purchase films directly in Russian.
However, prices in Crimean cinemas will tend to the Russian average, says Dmitry Garnega, director of the Pobeda cinema (Sevastopol). According to him, a ticket now costs in the range from 20 to 50 hryvnia (from 70 to 175 rubles), but soon the pricing policy of cinemas may change due to the growing purchasing power of the population. Average prices for movie tickets in Russia exceed 200 rubles.
