The quarantine recently introduced in a number of regions of Ukraine may develop into a nationwide quarantine, and it will hit not only small and medium-sized businesses, but also large businesses.

Political scientist Alexandra Reshmedilova stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“This is our third quarantine, and while we, although we have an adaptive quarantine by zone, most likely, judging by the dynamics, we are quite threatened by a nationwide quarantine - and it was said that if there are more than half of the regions, then one way or another the authorities will be forced” scale up” the restrictions that are now being implemented in a number of areas that have “turned red,” including the city of Kyiv. Therefore, I do not rule out a nationwide lockdown.

How do they differ, what is happening in general, what is the evolution of the actions of the authorities and are they drawing any conclusions at all? We remember the first quarantine with horror - then you couldn’t walk in the park, it was as strict as possible and raised a lot of questions. The following quarantines were no less strange - when it was impossible to buy socks and tights, and we understood that by buying some goods we were protected, but by buying other goods we were directly in the zone of greatest risk, which raised a lot of questions for businesses.

If the first two lockdowns largely affected micro-businesses, small businesses, medium-sized businesses, when the preservation of work, relatively speaking, a workplace for two baristas or one hairdresser, was in question, now, entering this third lockdown, I began to speak with caution are already big businesses, giants who don’t understand how they can save jobs.

Sometimes these are large taxpayers, and the GDP rests on them. We are now looking at the statements of our representatives of relevant committees and ministries that “everything is fine with us, budget replenishments are being made systematically, there will be no deficit, there will be no default.”

This is despite the fact that we did not receive a loan from the IMF. But everything is fine, they say, the lockdown is not a hindrance to us. This raises a lot of questions: where do our authorities get such optimistic views? What scenarios are they imagining for themselves, how are they planning to get through this lockdown?” Alexandra Reshmedilova is perplexed.
