Blinken showered Russia with threats in response to Lavrov's request to guarantee Moscow's security
In response to Russia's demand that NATO's borders be taken to the 1997 line, the United States is strengthening the Alliance's eastern flank within its current borders.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated this today at his press conference following negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have worked closely with our allies and partners on plans to strengthen NATO on its eastern flank in the event of Russian aggression against Ukraine. All these things are being done so that Russia understands what the cost of its potential actions will be. We believe this is the most effective way to dissuade Russia from engaging in further aggressive actions against Ukraine. Ukraine is a very valuable partner of both the United States and other European countries
We and our allies are equally prepared to do everything in our power to make clear to Russia that there will be a swift, tough and unified response to any aggression towards Ukraine,” Blinken said.
He also said that the West is ready to give an “appropriate and proportionate” response to other “types of Russian aggression”: cyber attacks and paramilitary tools.
“The accumulation of significant Russian forces on the border has taken place. A contingent of 100 thousand and sending a contingent to Belarus - this, if President Putin wants, could lead to an attack on Ukraine from both the east and the north. We have also seen moves to destabilize Ukraine and remove its government. These are not emotions, but facts,” Blinken insisted.
