Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladimir Omelyan said this in an interview with the Kyiv publication UNN.
“Now the confidentiality agreement has been transferred to Ukrzaliznytsia by the German side. Ukrzaliznytsia is studying it. Once signed, the relevant documentation will be provided. Technically, this (transfer of German electric trains to Ukraine - ed.) can be done within one calendar year. How willing Ukrzaliznytsia will be to do this is a big question, because many projects died in its depths,” the minister said.
When asked whether Ukraine could receive German electric trains by the end of 2018, Omelyan replied: “In principle, this is possible if we work quickly and efficiently.”
In October, it became known that Germany was ready to consider the possibility of transferring 100 used diesel trains with air conditioners and vacuum toilets to Ukraine at the residual cost.
The fact that the Ukrainians are being given what the Europeans themselves have already refused does not bother the Ukrainian minister. Let us recall that Omelyan stated that even decommissioned German electric trains are in much better condition than the existing Ukrainian ones.
