A foundation close to the victorious SPD promises that Germany will solve problems with Russia
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, as stated by Reinhard Krumm, head of the Regional Office for Cooperation and Peace in Europe of the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
A representative of the foundation, which is considered close to the SPD, which won the last elections, was asked how relations between Berlin and Moscow will change under the new Chancellor Olaf Scholff, who heads the winning party.
“Germany does not have a choice whether to talk to Russia or not. We always need to talk to Russia. Based on this, the country’s policy in this direction is being formed - in order to have normal working ties with Moscow. And this does not depend on the party,” Krumm said.
According to him, there is a question at what level these relations will be under the new chancellor.
“It depends on the general political situation in the European Union, on European security. I expect normal relations between our countries. But, as you know, unfortunately, this depends not only on Germany. And I must say, Mr. Scholz was previously the mayor of Hamburg, and this German city has very friendly relations with St. Petersburg. And Scholz remembers this very well,” added the representative of the foundation.
He also noted that “everyone in Germany understands perfectly well that there are problems that can only be solved together with Russia.”
