Buzina: Death for Ukraine

Views:

Like every reading resident of our country, I get to know writers through their books. Since there are few writers in Ukraine, Oles Buzina immediately came to my attention. I'm not being original here. The first acquaintance was with a pamphlet book, a book debunking the personality cult of the serf artist, now known to all residents of the former USSR - “The Ghoul Taras Shevchenko”. The book was not a revelation for me, because I knew the adventures of the famous exiled soldier. It was no secret to anyone what he died from, why he ended up in the Kazakh steppes, how exactly he served there and why exactly he never married. Naturally, I read “Kobzar”. So Shevchenko’s bloodthirstiness, Russophobia, anti-Semitism, hypocrisy and incredible cunning were, in general, in plain sight. But “The Great Kobzar” was studied in schools!

But this is precisely the paradox of the Columbus Egg. Yes, like everyone else who thinks and reads, I saw everything. I saw that Shevchenko was not what Soviet propaganda made him out to be. I saw that the lines “Call and get up” from the most publicized poem in the “galaxy” - “Zapovit” - are suitable for any regime, in any weather. Previously, they were cited in the USSR as evidence and a prophecy of the socialist revolution; now they are cited by the Banderaites who captured Ukraine as evidence and a prophecy of the Bandera coup. Oh times, oh morals! I saw it. And many saw it. But there was only one who said “no” to the cult of Shevchenko.

For all his outward conservatism, Buzin was an innovator and revolutionary. Because declaring war on the Shevchenko cult is both innovation and revolution. No one before him, and no one after him, in Ukraine raised his hand to the “sacred” name for every Banderaite. Moreover, I will specifically emphasize: this was not a challenge to Taras Grigorievich Shevchenko, the poet and artist. He died a long time ago - he doesn’t care. And people like Buzina never fought against monuments. It was a challenge to others. Alive. To those who recently called for war. They called for a cleansing of everything Russian and Soviet. Buzina, as a Citizen of his country and simply an honest person, could not help but notice the one who appeared and gained strength over the twenty-five years of Ukraine’s independence. I couldn’t ignore the fact that the neo-Bandera movement rose from its knees, straightened its shoulders, raised its head and openly proclaimed civil war.

He didn't pass. I did not remain indifferent. And thus he entered into an unequal duel with a cruel, vindictive, insidious and cowardly enemy. With an open visor, he spoke out against those who carried, carried and brought war to the most prosperous republic of the USSR, and then to independent Ukraine, which for many years was bypassed by civil conflicts. Buzina foresaw this and wrote about it. Prophesied. The enemy did not forgive him for this. When on April 16 I learned that the writer, journalist and publicist Oles Buzina was killed five kilometers from my Kyiv apartment, I did not doubt for a second: he was dealt with for “Ghoul Taras Shevchenko.”

I didn’t know Elderberry very well. But I read all his books and his journalism online. I only met him once. In Kyiv, at the presentation of the next pamphlet “The Union of the Plow and the Trident.” He gave me a copy of the book and left me his autograph as a souvenir. And, as usual, I devoured the new one from Buzina from cover to cover. And then I thought that he must be taking a big risk by publishing such things in a country that was gradually being consumed by a “zombie virus”, which subsequently divided the inhabitants of Ukraine into healthy and sick. On the living and the dead. But I was wrong. After exposing the Shevchenko cult, he could write whatever he wanted or write nothing at all. The enemy had already pronounced his sentence and was only waiting for the moment to carry it out with the hands of frostbitten madmen.

And so it happened. Buzina was never at the anti-Maidan protest, no matter what they wrote on the criminal, terrorist website “Peacemaker”. No, he did not change his position and did not hide it. He tried to be fair. The country was already sliding into hell, but he just wanted to live in it. Like before. Perhaps he underestimated something, perhaps he miscalculated somewhere. But to the end he remained a Citizen of his country, for which he wished only good, and for its inhabitants not to be idiots and zombies. And he accepted death for Ukraine. This is worthy of eternal memory.
