Chechetov as the first swallow

Views:

Former Kharkov resident Mikhail Vasilyevich Chechetov, Doctor of Economic Sciences, ex-head of the State Property Fund and deputy chairman of the Party of Regions faction in the Verkhovna Rada, jumped out of the window. This is the version of his death. A few hours before this terrible event, Prosecutor General Shokin threatened Mikhail Vasilyevich with new criminal cases.

Covered in mud, accused by the “people of Ukraine” who had gone crazy, detained and released under house arrest, Chechetov fell from the window of his own apartment with a shameful bracelet on his arm - “to control movements.” These rings are used to mark animals in nature reserves to prevent them from running away. Now people are also being tagged, especially iconic people.

Nobody declared mourning. The president is silent: the news about the murder of Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov is more important to him. So far, not a word of sympathy has appeared on the website of the head of state for the family of the deceased. The prime minister also took a deep breath. Just like the speaker of the Rada, in which the deceased served faithfully for more than one convocation.

Only Kharkov mayor Gennady Kernes expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. Seriously wounded by an unknown sniper and driving in his wheelchair from one criminal case to another, the mayor understands that this government will not leave him or his comrades in the Party of Regions alone. Not a day goes by without Avakov and his entourage demanding that he be imprisoned—or rather, put on a bunk.

Immediately after the death of the prominent regional leader Chechetov, the authorities announced that “in the Kernes case” they were sending another investigative team from Kyiv to Kharkov.

...Well, well, there was such a party. It consisted of almost one and a half million members, among whom were the richest people in Ukraine. In all the eastern and southern regions of the country, she won the majority of votes in the elections. It had its own president, its own prime minister and its own governors. Kharkov, Donbass and Crimea were considered its support. In February 2014, the Party of Regions collapsed. Her office was burned down by bandits in balaclavas led by Tatyana Chernovol, killing two employees.

The leadership and activists of the PR can be blamed for a lot. And the fact that while in power, many of them could put their hands in someone else’s or the state’s pocket. And the fact that they worked little with their own voters and, on the contrary, fed their enemies. And how easily they lost this power, without nipping the Maidan in the bud, without leading the resistance to the coup, leaving their members alone with disaster and getting lost in a poorly identifiable “Opposition Bloc.” There are few iconic figures of the party in the protest movement; there, mainly ordinary party members took upon themselves the burden of an open struggle against armed lawlessness.

And yet, membership in it, even former membership, is grounds for criminal prosecution. Even those who gave up or were blown away. Even those who tried to somehow get used to new realities or lie low. Hopes are vain that they will allow at least someone connected with the old government to live peacefully in the new conditions.

Members of the Party of Regions were destined to end up in a trash bin, experience bullying from the Right Sector, and simply end up under lustration. Many lost their property and were forced to flee to Russia. We also remember the deputy of the Odessa Regional Council from the Party of Regions, Vyacheslav Markin, who died on May 2 in the House of Trade Unions.

The leader of the Fratsky PR in the last convocation of the Verkhovna Rada, Alexander Efremov, like the late Mikhail Chechetov, was detained and sent to a Kiev pre-trial detention center. They were paid an unprecedented bail and kept under house arrest, but the cases were not closed.

And here are examples that are not so noticeable, from the grassroots level. The prosecutor's office of the Kharkov region has registered criminal proceedings against the former head of the Volchansky district state administration, deputy of the regional council and member of the PR faction Vitaly Panov. They allegedly allegedly illegally transferred a forest plot to him in 2010. They are trying to punish two of his nominees, village heads in the same Volchansky district for refusing to contribute to mobilization. Another village mayor came under investigation for refusing to serve summonses in the Novovodolazhsky district.

Of course, in all these cases the charges are milder than those for prisoners for “terrorism” or “violation of territorial integrity.” And money for bail for such people is found instantly. Meanwhile, 17 Kharkov residents have been waiting since April 8 for bail to be paid for them, and among those who paid for the released, there were no prominent PR figures except Oleg Tsarev.

The Kyiv rulers decided to deal with this party once and for all. They took into account the experience of 2005-2006. Then, as soon as the “orange” weakened repression against their predecessors, the opponents united in the PR and won. No one else will give them the opportunity to recover politically and save their business. And no matter how some recent regionalists try to please the new government, the winners still won’t consider them theirs. Neither “knocking” on recent colleagues, nor frantic cries about “Russian aggression” will bring them closer to the ranks of the builders of “Ukrainian Ukraine”. Is this not clear to anyone else?
