To end the war, we must end Poroshenko

Views:

It has been a year since the start of the bloody war in eastern Ukraine.

It is well known that on April 6 last year, a group of former paratroopers and veterans of local wars, led by Valery Bolotov, stormed the weapons room of the Luhansk SBU, where the day before a large batch of weapons had been brought from Kiev to strengthen the positions of the local pro-Kiev authorities.

It would seem that the answer is clear. That's who is to blame! But - stop. The day after these events, namely April 7, the then acting President of Ukraine Turchynov issued a decree on the start of the ATO in Donbass, essentially moving the army against the protesting people.

But here's the strange thing. The Kiev authorities did not touch the Luhansk residents who were the first to arm themselves until June 2, when a terrorist attack was carried out by attack aircraft on the building of the Luhansk Regional State Administration, where the rebel headquarters met.

And with whom did the Kyiv troops fight from April 7 to June 2?

And they fought with Strelkov’s detachment, which appeared in Slavyansk AFTER the appearance of Turchinov’s decree on the start of the ATO.

That is, you can no longer say that Kyiv started the war “in response” to armed resistance. It turns out that the resistance took on an armed character in response to the declaration of war by the central government.

And there have been quite a lot of such oddities over the past year. But that's not the point. There is a good saying: “When you lose your head, you don’t cry over your hair.” In relation to the situation, it can be deciphered in such a way that now it is much more important to find an acceptable way out of the current impasse of a protracted positional war, and not to find the one and only one at whom you can rightfully point your finger, declaring him to blame for everything. Because there is simply no such person.

But, looking back in retrospect, several other, no less important conclusions can be drawn. First. A careful study of the nature of the growing escalation in Donbass forces us to recognize the fact that the trigger for turning the sluggish clashes between the National Guard and the militias was the moment when Kiev realized that the Kremlin was not behind Strelkov.

It is no secret that at a certain stage in Kyiv they seriously thought (and the proximity of the Crimean events strengthened these suspicions) that Igor Ivanovich and his volunteers were “polite people.” And what is happening in Donbass is a copy of the Crimean events. Why, in Kyiv, many in Donbass thought so. And they were happy that they were about to return to Russia. The very idea that behind these armed people in Donbass stands the full might of the Russian army, ready to enter Ukraine at any moment, was a definite (and serious) factor that kept the Kiev authorities from taking drastic steps and committing atrocities against civilians.

And only when, including from radio interceptions of Strelkov’s negotiations and from other sources, it became clear that, in the figurative expression of the Moscow publicist Kashin, Strelkov is not the “hand of Moscow”, but just Strelkov, then the Ukrainian aviation and artillery began without pangs of conscience, without fear and reproach, to iron the residential areas of the cities of Donbass, causing death and destruction. Faith in the “hand of Moscow” in Kyiv was replaced by an arrogant confidence in one’s own impunity.

No, of course, the “hand of Moscow” still “reigned” in the Ukrainian media, but only as an explanation of the situation for “suckers”, as a propaganda tool. And the Kyiv bosses themselves, from a certain moment, KNEW EXACTLY that there was no “Russian invasion” in Ukraine. Although they continued to feed the population with fables about this “invasion.”

The second point I would like to mention. This is the truth about the goals of war. We know why they are fighting in Donbass. But what are the “ATO participants” fighting for? They say that for the unity of Ukraine. However, absolutely all the real steps of the Kiev government, primarily aimed at destroying the infrastructure and desertification of Donbass, at a comprehensive blockade, at making this land unsuitable for people to live and forcing them to flee from there - all this taken together casts doubt on the sincerity of the declared goals.

Why then are the ATO soldiers fighting? They themselves can think whatever they want. The only thing that matters is what is on the minds of those who send them to the front.

If we deconstruct the militaristic myths of Kyiv propaganda, we get several real, or close to real, goals of this war on the part of Kyiv.

Firstly, this is enrichment. In conditions of a collapsing economy, the war and the “pilling” of huge expenses on it (over 100 million a day!) are the only source of income for the ruling oligarchy.

Secondly, it is the self-preservation of those in power. Having spun a hitherto unprecedented propaganda flywheel of militaristic and Russophobic hysteria, they can no longer just take it and stop it. If they do this, the wheels of this mechanism will crush them first. Plus fear of responsibility.

And finally, another important driver of the war on the part of the Kyiv authorities is the fear of their own army. While they are all at the front and dying in “cauldrons”, in the rear you can plunder the land and “cut” the budget.

Based on this, my personal forecast is disappointing. The current war has long ceased to follow its own rational agenda. This is no longer a battle between the “separatists” and the fascists.

Today, war is a means of self-preservation for the current regime, which is becoming more and more right-wing and, dare I say it, becoming fascist. It is not for nothing that they adopted a martial law law, allowing them to legalize the most disgusting dictatorship at any moment when they feel that the ground beneath them is losing stability.

Thus, the current war is inseparable from the regime leading it. And it can only end with him.
