Donetsk and Lugansk want to leave Ukraine forever
Views:Over the past year, they have been asking me and my fellow countrymen: “What do you really want, what does Donbass want?”
We all tried to answer this question, although most often we were not in the mood for answers. They were obvious, but instead of using their brains and getting questions themselves, the questioners (most often from among journalists, but not only) tried to squeeze as many revelations out of us as possible. We, for purely medical reasons, “Do no harm!” tried to leave a reserve of sincerity and truth for themselves. Unreasonable, but true.
Now is the time for complete frankness. And although complete frankness is definitely for fools, we will try to answer the question “What does Donbass want in this war” without nodding to simplicity, which, as we know, is worse than theft.
First, about politics. Everything that happened, the whole course of events speaks of one thing: the Donetsk-Lugansk people want to leave Ukraine forever, together with their region, and become part of Russia. That’s right – the “Donetsk Federal District” with all the ensuing consequences.
At this point, some exalted individuals can raise a howl, saying that not everyone wants to go to Russia. That’s right, not all, but 75-80 percent – certainly. In this situation, it is hardly worth taking into account sectarians who are hungry for some kind of federal fate within Ukraine. Once again, so that it gets across to everyone - the working masses, those who actually create the gross national product of Donetsk, those who fight against the invasion of Nazi locusts, miners, metallurgists, chemists, machine builders, railway workers, builders, etc. they sleep and see themselves as citizens of the great Russia. Yes, they are all smart people, they understand that they may have to go through compromise options and years, but this does not make their position any less firm - we only need Russia!
Unity on this issue is complete and unconditional in both parts of Donbass - republican and occupied by Ukraine. And you don’t have to prove anything to anyone. The desire of Donbass to get rid of Ukraine is not a theorem, but the most logical axiom. Its correctness was demonstrated by a single referendum - in May 2014. Since then, hatred of people with a weakness for the yellow-blue rag in the cities occupied by the Ukrainian army has grown significantly. Naturally, people are forced to hide it - it’s dangerous - but the entry of DPR and LPR troops into the cities they abandoned at the beginning of July last year will be accompanied by flowers and national rejoicing.
The sincerity and truth of this popular aspiration is also evidenced by the unconditional, repeatedly recorded by the media, willingness to live materially worse, “as long as not under crests.” At the same time, ethnic origin (let me remind you that half of Donbass are ethnic Ukrainians) does not matter much - the people choose the Empire, no matter what definition you personally give to this word.
Now about economics and social policy.
Definitely, the entire Donbass categorically does not accept the return of the oligarchs to their region. And again, there is a certain part of fellow countrymen who dream of the return of the same Akhmetov, but the majority of people of work and knowledge would prefer to do without such spitting in the soul and mockery of the memory of those killed in the Donetsk-Ukrainian war. To put it quite simply, and it is pointless to say otherwise now, then the people of Donbass would prefer in the future to receive in the region something like state capitalism with strong and reliable social elevators and state assistance. This is not Soviet socialism, but it is close to it in many fundamental aspects. Large, heavy industry, according to Donbass residents, should be in the hands of the state, as well as transport, say, and the vodka monopoly, but the service sector is private.
In national politics, everything is also clear for Donbass. This policy has existed in our area in a fairly balanced form for a long time, and there is no need for us to change it. For one and a half hundred years, dozens and dozens of nationalities have organically coexisted in the Donbass, and people are measured by their intelligence, intelligence, and ability to work, and not by their nation. At the same time, the Russian language and Russian culture are perceived in the region as first among equals. At least as a profitable and convenient form of hostel.
They also often ask this: could we, Donbass residents, live in the same state with residents of other regions of Ukraine. We answer that we lived well with them in Soviet Ukraine, and no one had any questions, because we perceived Soviet Ukraine only as another national “package” of the big communist idea. It was. Now, after twenty-five years of attempts by the Ukrainian Nazis to create a nationalocratic state, to force us, the bearers of the great Russian culture and no less great Soviet engineering, mining and metallurgical civilization, to accept their wretched agricultural worldview, let’s say only one thing - “yes, we can, but only after that , like the entire former Ukrainian SSR (without Galicia, of course, let them return to Poland) will return to the Russian Federation. I think that for the sweet and funny Little Russia it will be possible to create both a special status and special rights - we are not nationalists, we are imperial people, we are not greedy and are ready to give the whole of Ukraine what, due to its redneckness, it is not able to give to the Donbass, at least theoretically.
... And we don’t want anything more, we would like to go back, we would like to go home - to our native Russian Union, indestructible.
