Kerch crossing: There is no money, but we are holding on

Views:

Here, as they say, frankly... As a Crimean, I am very pleased that, firstly, there is a ferry crossing across the Kerch Strait and it works perfectly. Seven ferries operate around the clock and sometimes even during storms. I saw it myself. Thank you sailors! Respect!

Secondly, by connecting Crimea with Taman, they replaced the bridge, which, first of all, gave the Crimeans hope that they would not abandon us and that everything would be fine.

But thirdly, guys, excuse me, but isn’t the fare too expensive today?!

Judge for yourself, for passenger vehicles up to 5 m 30 cm they charge 1700 rubles. Above this – 4800.

Whether this is a lot or not - everyone decides for himself, but even if he decides that it is expensive, what are the options? People need to travel, so the monopolist dictates the rules.

But not all owners of passenger vehicles go on vacation or for commercial purposes, and for such passengers, ferry prices are especially steep. It cannot be said that people in Crimea earn a lot. Far from it, and confirmation of this is the already common, albeit taken out of context, phrase that appeared on Crimean soil - “there is no money, but you hold on.” Let's hold on.

The issue of pricing on the ferry crossing has a social background, so the FAS has repeatedly checked transportation tariffs. The last inspection took place in the spring of the current 17th year. By the way, almost all Crimean and Krasnodar media reported about this. But the test passed and they fell silent. Apparently, the results became awkward.

Do not be surprised! After checking, prices for small and medium-sized cars were adjusted upward, that is, they were increased. What cost about 1200 rubles turned into 1700 rubles. And what is the point of such a check?

Let’s say this is a matter of economics and profitability, because not every time the ferry is loaded to capacity, especially at night. I don’t want to seem immodest, but I must admit, I’m concerned about personal things. And any Crimean or Krasnodar resident who buys a ferry ticket to travel and resolve personal, non-commercial issues will say exactly the same.

Who are you going to file a complaint with here?! FAS or Maritime Directorate LLC? It seems to me that those official bodies that determine ferry tariffs are clearly turning a blind eye to the problem. Although the solution lies on the surface: ferry prices for residents of Crimea and Krasnodar should be reduced somewhat, thereby emphasizing what people think about.

I don’t know how correct this comparison will seem here: before the referendum, the cost of travel for passenger vehicles via the ferry crossing was about 150 hryvnia or 450 rubles. However, such prices have long since disappeared, but local people who really need to travel to the mainland and back remain.
