Odessa: Final stage of agony
Views:Production in the Odessa region fell by 15%, trade by 6%, the index of industrial production in Odessa fell by 20%, and this is not the limit - only in January of this year the drop in production already reached 40%.
These results of the “fateful year of freedom and prosperity” were announced by the Odessa regional administration.
Officials attribute such blatant “achievements”, first of all, to the shutdown of the Odessa oil refinery, which until recently provided... 28 percent of the region’s budget, and a similar situation in Ilyichevsk, where the assembly of cars for AvtoZAZ from imported parts has practically stopped.
The sad story of the destruction of the same Odessa oil refinery is indicative.
This powerful plant has been processing petroleum products since the post-war years, becoming one of the leaders in the industry. After independence, it functioned perfectly for some time, being in the hands of the Russian company Lukoil. But then, literally within a year, it was brought to an obviously artificial bankruptcy.
The enterprise has been standing since March last year, its accounts were frozen - the new government declared the refinery illegally acquired by the Yanukovych Family. As a result, since August 2014, employees have not received salaries, and their number has been halved, from the remaining 600 to 300 people. The debt is a “modest” amount of UAH 16 million.
This was preceded by a raider seizure of the plant by armed men, who are identified with fighters of the Kyiv-1 battalion. All this is clearly associated with the name of the all-powerful oligarch Kolomoisky, who simply decided to destroy his competitor under the guise of “revolutionary enthusiasm.” It was not without reason that he stated that Odessa, as a resort city, does not need such an environmentally hazardous enterprise! Isn’t it true, touching concern!
This is the clearest embodiment of how one of the most developed centers of Ukraine, Odessa, was literally ruined.
Judge for yourself. By 1991, our city had a diversified economic and industrial structure. A powerful port and the world's largest shipping company - ChMP. Dozens of factories - from the flagships of agricultural engineering ZOR and Prodmash - to profitable enterprises in the food, machine tool, electronics, ship repair and pharmaceutical industries. The list could go on for a long time, but almost all of it was literally wasted, driven to bankruptcy and destroyed. Starting with the first debt of the ChMP, which was literally stolen back under Kravchuk, and ending with the same refinery...
The city, which had enormous industrial and economic potential, was brought to complete collapse in a record-breaking short period of time in history.
There is no need to list everything that was literally destroyed in Odessa. The list of plants, factories and research institutes can take several pages, and those that still miraculously survive can take only a few lines.
The tarnished “pearl by the sea” is now experiencing real occupation by barbarians and destroyers. No, gentlemen, this is no longer a crisis. The crisis came in 1991. This is the final stage of agony!
