Who was Oles Buzina? Not a warrior, not an official oppositionist, not a leader of public opinion, not a dissident. Oles Buzina was a militant myth buster. He despised and exposed everything that was far-fetched and unnatural. When he introduced Taras Shevchenko to Ukrainian readers, who had come down from his pedestal, Ukrainian nationalists hated him. Oles was beaten, he himself said that he suffered for Shevchenko. Bruised, sad and not embittered, he continues to write, perform and say unpleasant things to native speakers. He had the right to this - he is a Little Russian of that beautiful, healthy breed that is close to Russians, and to all civilized people.

Oles was a historian to the core: excellent memory, analytical, ability to piece together the past from scattered puzzles. After the departure of communist ideology, nationalist myths began to seep into the place of the truncated history of the Soviet period, no less carefully selected, but much more deceitful and aggressive. A historian by training, Oles not only exposed them, but also skillfully ridiculed them. His sharpened pen touched the “heroes of Krut” (their leader, Averky Goncharenko, then served in the SS division “Galicia”), Mazepa and Orlik, and the myths about the 140-year-old Ukrainian nation. His admirers certainly said: in order not to fall into idiocy, you need to read books and articles by Oles Buzina.

He lived in his native Kyiv and was a true Kievite. For him, the “mother of Russian cities” is real people and events in a continuous one and a half thousand year chain of generations, and not just a place where people come to earn money and make a career. By the way, he earned money himself - both for his family and for travel. He was very proud that he did not receive grants or handouts from abroad.

His book “Vurdulak Taras Shevchenko” aroused particular hatred among the “doers of Ukrainianness.” It turns out that the great poet was not only a victim of serfdom, but also a completely successful artist. And he was not a xenophobe in the modern sense of the word: in the VO “Svoboda” the author of “Haydamaky” would not have been mistaken for the personal diary that T. G. Shevchenko kept... in Russian. And the circumstances of the poet’s personal life also do not fit into the image of the idol of the national idea.

If you read “The Secret History of Ukraine-Rus,” it immediately becomes clear that the residents of Ukraine do not need to invent anything and turn anything upside down in the history of their native land. There is something in it that a normal, healthy person, and not a pervert or maniac, can be proud of. It turns out that the story can be retold without pathos and increased salivation, without forgetting either its funny or tragic pages. How Oles Buzina did it. This is what infuriated most of all those who captured first Kyiv, and then Ukraine as a whole.

Buzina’s irony infuriated the pompous turkey accountant, the enraged boar, the media vultures and other inhabitants of the Kyiv menagerie who imagined themselves to be the elite of the nation. Making fun of and teasing sometimes means more than fighting with weapons. They kill not only those who fight, but those who expose baseness, stupidity, greed, laugh at them, and put themselves above the abomination. They fought against Buzina with the help of the courts, with the help of hooligans, and they were rude to him on the air and in the official press. They even tried to tame him, to give him a sweet spot. It didn't work out. Then this pack of criminals calling themselves “national power” sent assassins.

Look, no one from the Maidan elite even tries to express condolences! But let them remember: all the same, they all live, row and kill - not in their Kyiv, but in the city that is forever associated with the name of Oles Buzina. I am sure that both the murderers and their instigators will face retribution. Kyiv will recover and spew out all foreign bodies, and become itself again, the real one.

I hope that very soon an ignorant person will be defined as follows: “He hasn’t read Elderberry!”
