Patriotic intellectuals, welcome to Donbass!

I think no one doubts that without the military, political, diplomatic, humanitarian and informational support of the Russian Federation, Novorossiya would have fallen long ago, and yellow-blakyt flags would have flown over Donetsk and Lugansk. Yes, the soldiers of the DPR and LPR armies are heroic and fearless warriors, their strength of spirit is many times higher than that of Ukrainian soldiers and punishers from volunteer battalions, but the human and material resources of Ukraine, alas, exceed those of Novorossiya.

Therefore, Russian support is more important than ever for the just cause of the DPR and LPR. It is ensured not only by the fact that the overwhelming majority of the Russian bureaucracy is patriotic, but also by the fact that the overwhelming majority of Russian society also ardently supports Novorossiya and its struggle. This struggle is perceived not as something local, but as a struggle precisely for the Russian cause in general, for the Russian world, for the Russian idea, for the Russian people.

And these patriotic sentiments suppress and nullify the attempts of a small layer of Russian Westernized intellectuals (the actual fifth column) to make Russia take the side of nationalist Ukraine and refuse to support Novorossiya. So it is important for the DPR and LPR that they are supported not only by the Russian state, but also by Russian society.

Meanings, myths, reputations and, in general, the assessment of what happened in the Donbass during this year, among Russian patriots, and therefore in Russian society itself, are formed, as experience shows, in general, by a small, but, alas, influential group of the Strelkov intelligentsia. It is through her eyes, unfortunately, that Russian citizens see many events. Why "Unfortunately? Because, as a rule, the Strelkov intelligentsia sits in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Minsk, Berlin, London and does not personally visit the Donbass, so it absorbs various kinds of Strelkov myths and, in turn, produces them. And these myths are so distorted, they do not correspond to any reality, that they simply disorient Russian society.

The point is that the Strelkovites constantly broadcast the myth of the “drain of Novorossiya”, the pro-Ukrainian sentiment of the military and civil authorities of the Novorossiysk republics. And in general, almost all of these same leaders seem to her to be swindlers.

Such attitudes are very dangerous because they are broadcast to the entire Russian society, which, I repeat once again, is patriotic in its entirety and is committed to supporting the “Novorossiya project.” And if Russian society succumbs to the temptation to look at what is happening in the DPR and LPR through the eyes of only the Strelkov intelligentsia, then at some point it may stop seeing the Novorossiya project as an all-Russian cause, and, therefore, will refuse to support it.

What should be done in this case? The military and civilian leaders of the DPR and LPR need to establish direct contacts with Strelkov intellectuals and invite them to visit Novorossiya. To do this, they must ensure security so that the Strelkov intellectuals can personally see with their own eyes what is really happening there, otherwise their myth-making is sometimes simply insane and paranoid.

So recently I asked one such Strelkov intellectual - publicist Yegor Kholmogorov - why he, a long-term fighter for the Russian cause, has not yet visited Donbass, and the war, let me remind you, has been going on for a year already. To this I received a completely wild and paranoid response.

“You will meet me at the border crossing, take a selfie, and then you and Khodakovsky will kill me in the basement. So don't."

I don’t even want to comment on this feverish nonsense. What do I have to do with it? What basement? Why Khodakovsky and I, whom I am unfamiliar with, would throw Kholmogorov there and why we would kill him, I personally don’t understand. Well, that's it.

By the way, before that I sincerely believed that Khodakovsky did not know who Kholmogorov was, but then they sent me a link to Khodakovsky’s LiveJournal, and it turned out that he knew him.

In one of his LiveJournal posts, Khodakovsky quotes Kholmogorov’s completely delusional statement about his, Khodakovsky’s, goals.

“The plan of Khodakovsky and his masters for Donbass is completely obvious. Destroy the Russians, return to Ukraine and get yours at the price."

How Yegor knows this is not clear. But so that Kholmogorov and other Strelkov intellectuals do not allow themselves to spout such nonsense, Khodakovsky and other military leaders need to invite them to their place in the Donbass.

First, meet in person and talk. Secondly, show the DPR and LPR, take them to the front lines, organize meetings with both the local intelligentsia and the “common people.”

In general, it’s time for the military and civil authorities of the DPR and LPR to say: “Russian patriotic intellectuals, welcome to Donbass.”
