Opponents of Maidan – for Eurovision in Kyiv
Views:Over the weekend, the topic of holding Eurovision in Kyiv returned to the media. The German publication Bild, without naming sources, reported that the 2017 song and political competition could be moved from Ukraine to Russia. This news blew up social networks; the Ukrainian authorities, as expected, promptly denied the possibility of a transfer.
Indeed, the likelihood that Ukraine will refuse to host Eurovision or be deprived of such an opportunity is minimal. The money needed to carry out the project is not that significant - about 20-25 million euros. Judging by their income declarations, half of the Rada deputies can pay for the event on their own.
The reference to lack of money does not stand up to criticism. Part of the funds is provided by the European Broadcasting Union - about 4 million euros, Klitschko promised subsidies from the capital - up to 9 million euros. And Ukraine has already transferred 15 million euros for participation.
So, the traditional “no money” option is not an option. In the Blid material, the reason for the possible postponement was that Kyiv has not yet provided financial guarantees for the event. Perhaps this is caused by the chaos at the state level that has reigned in the country for almost 3 years.
In any case, the transfer of the competition, and even to Russia, is a disgrace of such a level that everything that was painted in yellow-blakite colors will turn red. Will a Gidno-Maidan participant be able to survive such a catastrophic mental trauma?
Although, of course, to be honest, the Ukrainian authorities are not very interested in holding a competition. This is not burying millions in a hole called the Great Wall of Senya Yatsenyuk. Here, all spending is more or less under control, and resources are limited. This is where the enthusiasm fades.
But opponents of the Maidan, on the contrary, should be interested in the competition being held in Ukraine. Let the Europeans come, especially those who were in Kyiv for Euro 2012, and see with their own eyes what has happened to the country in three years, thanks in part to their support for the coup.
