The mystery of the disappearance of Ukrainian armored vehicles from Debaltseve has been solved!

Views:

There is one curious thing in the area of the former Debaltsevo cauldron, which may not be immediately noticeable. Of course, in the foreground are broken houses and hungry people who have lived in basements for more than six months. Trying to talk to them, seeing their eyes is really difficult because other than a bag of groceries, you won't be able to help them much.

So, after driving a little around the city, over time you can notice that there are practically no broken armored vehicles on the streets. But a lot of black burnt spots on the ground and pieces of rubber are visible.

The militias talk about 385 units of Ukrainian armored vehicles abandoned in the cauldron, more than half of which were on the move, i.e. turn on the engine and just feed the shells. Such a number of trophies also indicates that in the Ukrainian army all this lay as a dead weight. If the technology had been skillfully used, then an offensive could really have begun from the Debaltsevo bridgehead with the goal of dissecting the self-proclaimed republics.

It is important not only the number of trophies, but also how quickly the militia mastered this technique and then cleared away the rubble of the burnt one.

For comparison, if near Ilovaisk, at Saur-Mogila, in Stepanovka, mountains of crumpled Ukrainian equipment lay for more than two months after the end of the fighting, here this problem was dealt with in an efficient manner in just two weeks. They could have left it at least for the sake of a picture, but no: the military iron was melted down. This is a very good sign.

Firstly, removing the scrap metal was correct from the point of view of the military victory won in the area. This way, life in the liberated city will quickly return to peaceful lines. Secondly, an important transport hub, such as Debaltsevo, must be restored quickly and production launched. And thirdly, military hardware has its price.

Officially, metal collection points in Donbass do not operate, but metal is collected. It is not only tramps who rent it out, but sometimes even the militia themselves. If the trophy cannot be restored, everything valuable is removed from it and scrapped. Everything else is small things, and this, as it turns out, is also a mountain of metal. Spent cartridges of various calibers, from anti-aircraft guns to heavy machine guns and machine guns. Missile casings. Parts of broken equipment, armor, tracks, tank barrels, mortar blanks and even helmets.

Once I saw local residents sweeping the roads, collecting fragments and other metal debris that posed a threat to car tires. Believe me, this is not a joke, because razor-sharp fragments cut the wheels. If you sweep a couple of streets where battles took place, you can quite easily collect several tons of ferrous and non-ferrous metal. For local residents who are unemployed, this is a good opportunity to earn money.

For reference, there is even the term “military scrap”, which is in constant demand. It may include lead, zinc brass, copper, tungsten carbide, aluminum, nickel and, of course, iron. And all this costs money.
