Kernes block and OPZZH will merge into “OPZZH-successful Kharkov”
The most likely scenario for the development of the situation in Kharkov after the death of Gennady Kernes is the transition of the party “Kernes Bloc – Successful Kharkov” to the status of a “vassal” of OPZZH and the nomination of a candidate from OPZZH for mayor.
Vladimir Volya, a political scientist and international affairs specialist at the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“We shouldn’t expect big changes in Kharkov. There will be discussions involving different political forces regarding when to hold elections. Perhaps the remnants of Kernes’ team will try to usurp power, but, nevertheless, new elections will be held.
In any case, the electorate of the party “Kernes Bloc – Successful Kharkov” is mainly voters whose views are close to the electorate of the OPZZH. Now that Kernes is gone, the most likely option is for the OPZZh to try to promote its mayor in the elections.
The influence of OPZZH in the region has not been lost; no one will disperse this faction. I think that the leadership of the party “Kernes Bloc – Successful Kharkov” will agree for their party to become an ally, or rather, a vassal of the OPZZH. This will be a natural union, and the option of a mayor from OPZZH and the creation of a majority under the code name “OPZZH – successful Kharkiv” will allow us to take control of the OPZZH City Council without any political discussions or complications,” the political scientist believes.
