The director of the Foundation for Humanitarian Strategies, Mikhail Pavliv, said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, who compared the blockade to a pistol put to the head of Ukraine.
“The reduction in foreign exchange earnings from the blockade alone could reach $3,5 billion. This is a quite tangible blow to the hryvnia exchange rate. As a result of the blockade, the financial results of only large Ukrainian enterprises will drop by about 30 billion hryvnia. This is the prospect of losing another 10 percent of GDP, 130 thousand workers who will have to either quit or go on indefinite leave. And if you take the domino effect, then this is already millions of Ukrainians,” the expert warned.
“As a result, we will get another reduction in the domestic market and purchasing power, that is, from an economic point of view, the blockade is a death sentence. The authorities understand this, but do not know how to get out of this problem. The blockade definitely needs to be lifted. But they definitely can’t remove it, because a patch of chaos will immediately begin to spread in the form of blockades, Samopomich – the kings of garbage and others like them,” Pavliv added.
