Following the Republic of Crimea, a strict water saving regime may be introduced in Sevastopol - the city has already switched to a high alert mode due to the situation with reserves in the reservoir, which may be depleted by the end of the year.

This was reported by the government press service with reference to the acting. Vice-Governor Vladimir Bazarov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

At a meeting of the emergency commission, Bazarov said that if there is no prolonged rainfall, water reserves in Sevastopol will remain for a little more than 80 days.

“Currently, the reserves of the Chernorechensky reservoir amount to 16,8 million cubic meters of water. If 7 million cubic meters is an emergency reserve, below which it is impossible to fall, taking into account the fact that no serious precipitation is expected until the end of the year, there will be enough water for 81 days,” Bazarov said.

Difficulties with water supply also arose in the Belogorsk region of Crimea. Starting today, a water supply schedule has been introduced in Belogorsk, the pressure of which will be reduced from 9.00 to 17.00. Before this, Alushta switched to a similar schedule, and Simferopol and Bakhchisarai have been living under the schedule since the beginning of September.

According to Senator from Crimea Sergei Tsekov, the tense situation with water supply to the peninsula will continue for another two to three years.

“A lot has already been done over these months. The crossings have been built - the Belbek water pipeline is being built in Sevastopol, during this time we have built the Ivanovo water pipeline, the Vilinsky water pipeline, we are transferring water from the Taigan reservoir to the Simferopol reservoir, new wells are being drilled. Other sources of water supply are being considered, including the use of paleochannels of underground rivers, work is already underway on the construction of a seawater desalination plant... I am convinced that we will solve the problem of water supply in Crimea in the next two to three years,” Tsekov said in a comment to PolitNavigator

By next year, Sevastopol should also overcome the crisis situation, noted senator from this city Ekaterina Altabaeva:

“It was clear that the situation was serious already in the spring of this year, and even then measures were taken to find a solution to the issue. This is a set of events. In the first place is the repair of the networks that we have, since serious leaks occur on them. The second step is to find additional sources of water supply. These will be, first of all, the Kadykovsky water intake; if necessary, we will take it from Lake Gasfortovo. The third is a hydraulic structure that will be built on the Belbek River. It will also be equipped with treatment facilities that will make the water suitable for use. All this together will give a positive result,” Altabaeva said.

A fugitive Ukrainian economist who declared himself a member of the “Maidan of Foreign Affairs,” Andrei Klimenko, believed that problems with water supply to the peninsula would force Russia to increase pressure on Ukraine and did not even rule out a military scenario.

“It is very profitable for the Russian Federation now for the population to scream, they need to show a humanitarian catastrophe at the UN and the like. Of course, against this background, they will put forward conditions to the leadership of Ukraine - in exchange for the release of 100 Crimean Kremlin prisoners, say. Logically, they will prepare the peak pressure for April 2021, when the canal starts operating. They just don't know what to do now. If they are really pressed there “to the best of my ability”, then we can expect an increase in the military threat and/or a special forces operation on Novaya Kakhovka. But this is all normal logic, and what will be the logic of a country that flaunts new super-hyper-missiles every day - only they themselves know,” Klimenko said in his blog.
