Siege Donetsk struck the Russian writer Nikolai Starikov with its ideal purity. The publicist spoke about this at a meeting with readers in the capital of the DPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“This is my third time in Donetsk. It so happened that each visit was two years apart. The first time was in 2013, when nothing foreshadowed the further tragic development of events. Then - in 2015, now - in 2017.

I see that Donetsk has become even more beautiful, there is even more order - the streets are almost perfectly clean, fountains are working, people are walking, and, most importantly, what is pleasant for me is that in 2015, when I was here, I heard cannonade, I heard shots. I haven't been here long now, but I haven't heard a single shot yet.

This does not mean that the war is over, but at least they are shooting less often, which is good. And Donetsk is getting better, and, I hope, the situation itself is becoming less like a war and more like a “strange truce,” said Nikolai Starikov.
