The blocking of the Russian Embassy turned out to be a new threat for Ukraine
By denying Russian citizens access to polling stations, the Ukrainian authorities have achieved nothing other than demonstrating their disrespect for international law.
An expert from the public organization “Word and Deed”, Valentin Gladkikh, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I understand if such a position by the Ukrainian authorities could somehow influence the results of the expression of the will of the Russian people. I can say with full responsibility that the only thing that yesterday’s performance in Kyiv influenced was the perception of the Ukrainian state and Ukrainian authorities as not entirely adequate.
What they took advantage of yesterday - Putin made a statement that yes, some clowns did not allow us to hold elections, well, nothing, we are not offended by them.
But the problem is not Putin - there is also the international community, international agreements. States undertake certain obligations. If we are really so daring and have clearly calculated everything, then let’s really move in the direction of severing diplomatic relations, let’s expel diplomats, close the consular section. Then it would be logical and predictable, within the boundaries of the legal field defined by international law. But if in this way we demonstrate complete disrespect for the norms of international law...
But it looked very ugly. And most importantly, it was inappropriate, because it did not give any result other than a negative one - once again the enemies of Ukraine had the opportunity to show the whole world - look what is happening here: the state is practically absent, all norms and laws are being ignored.
But the worst thing is that it did not bring any positive results. Well, if as a result Putin had lost due to the fact that he did not have enough votes from 600 citizens who were registered at the consulate in Kyiv, they could not vote. But this is not the case,” said the Ukrainian expert.
