Bloomberg saw the leadership of the Ukrainian hryvnia
The hryvnia topped the list of currencies that strengthened the most against the dollar in the first half of 2018, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is stated in a Bloomberg article.
According to the agency, since the beginning of the year, the Ukrainian national currency has strengthened against the dollar by 7,7%, surpassing the Georgian lari and the Colombian peso.
As the publication notes, this trend is observed despite problems in the economy, military conflict in eastern Ukraine, high levels of corruption and the lack of international financial support.
According to Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Oleg Churi, the main task for strengthening the currency is to prevent dependence on short-term capital to finance the current account deficit.
He also noted that the regulator will be able to soften monetary policy only if it sees a steady downward trend in inflation.
Earlier it was reported that the National Bank may resort to tightening monetary policy and introducing some currency restrictions in the event of increased inflationary pressure, if Ukraine fails to receive the next credit tranche from the International Monetary Fund.
