Bogdan told how Putin puts everyone on their backs during negotiations
Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, showed respect for him and showed that he wants to find a solution to the conflict in Donbass.
This was stated in an interview with Kyiv journalist Dmitry Gordon, notorious for his anti-Russian attacks and PR of charlatans, by the former head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andrei Bogdan, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Bogdan, Putin turned out to be an extremely tough negotiator, not ready to compromise.
“At the time, it was felt that he wanted to find some kind of solution to this problem. I don’t know from what motives - economic, political, it seems to me that political as well. Zelensky had rabid support, including in Russia. To fight with the favorite of your people is to present yourself inadequately. The problem is that today this has all changed dramatically,” said Bogdan.
“What is the relationship between Zelensky and Putin today?” Gordon clarified.
– I can only judge some public moments that I understand well. If some message is published that a telephone conversation between Putin and Zelensky took place, but the press releases about the conversation are different, this is called a diplomatic failure, which means the negotiations went poorly. What I see, it seems to me that we somehow threw him hard,” Bogdan answered.
According to the former head of the office, the deception was that Ukraine did not fulfill the obligations it had undertaken - “they promised one thing and did nothing.”
Bogdan also complained that it is very difficult to negotiate with Putin; in this matter, he is stronger than the leaders of France and Germany.
- A very tough person. Very. Very. But very confident. He is a very difficult negotiator, very difficult. He is stronger, it seems to me, than them. I could be wrong here, I am not such a qualified diplomat. But he has some kind of algorithm and he doesn’t leave it for a second. You can motivate, tell, tell, and he says: “I think like this. That's it, don't waste your time."
According to Bogdan, Russia is also not ready to abandon the Minsk agreements and will put pressure on Ukraine in their implementation.
“They are not ready for a second to deviate from the Minsk agreements.” For them, the most important point is point 1, “Changes to the Constitution.” They are not ready to continue the conversation further until changes are made, the law on special status, changes to the Constitution that this law provides for. Everything is structured clearly and logically for them. But our society is not ready to discuss this,” Bogdan added.
