According to local residents, electricity is available only in a small part of the city, where the poles with power lines are not destroyed, that is, in 1/8 of Avdeevka.
Like yesterday, the city is practically closed: it is impossible to enter or leave it. There are only two grocery stores open, but there are no queues outside; people are mostly in basements and bomb shelters. In some parts of the city, sewer lines are used as cover. Several families are known to have taken refuge in them.
Ukrainian armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles drive through the streets at high speed, but the tanks do not enter the city. After an attempt to break through tanks and destroy two units at the entrance to Avdiivka by the militia, the National Guard does not dare to use them in battles, eyewitnesses say.
Almost all areas of the city are under mortar fire.
“The shells carefully land on residential areas and parking lots. Both private houses and high-rise buildings are destroyed: shells hit the windows of apartment buildings. 4 kindergartens and several schools were completely destroyed. All that was left of the buildings were bare walls,” local residents will report. Approximately half of the city's entire vehicle fleet, both personal and municipal, was destroyed by shrapnel or armored vehicles. The number of victims is being specified.
As Navigator reported, fighting in Avdiivka has been going on for several days: there is conflicting information about who controls the city, although security forces have stated that the Ukrainian flag is hanging over the city council. Of particular concern is the work of the Avdeevka coke plant, the loss of power to which threatens the release of toxic substances.
