Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences Konstantin Sivkov stated this at a press conference in Moscow.
“Aleppo is a densely built city. The fighting there is reminiscent of Berlin in 45 and Stalingrad. This is a battle between tactical groups supported by armored vehicles to capture individual buildings. This is sniper warfare. Air strikes are carried out only against previously identified targets using high-precision weapons. Therefore, the struggle for Aleppo will be long. According to my estimates, at least two months,” Sivkov said.
He believes that the process could speed up if the militants agree to leave the city. Otherwise, large casualties among civilians cannot be avoided. According to Sivkov, there are currently about 4-5 thousand militants of various orientations in eastern Aleppo, mainly from Jabhat al-Nusra.
“The situation with the logistics of these militants is sad. There they are hungry and have problems with ammunition. Among the forces surrounding Aleppo, 85% are Syrian army and Syrian militia forces. The rest is Hezbollah and the Revolutionary Guards. They are the most combat-ready,” Sivkov said.
