Ukraine: Murders and repressions against unwanted journalists continue
More than 60 journalists were killed around the world last year while carrying out their professional duties. A significant part of the sad statistics concerns post-Maidan Ukraine, where, according to Petro Poroshenko, “unheard-of freedom of speech” reigns.
Political scientist Armen Gasparyan stated this today at a press conference in Moscow with reference to reports from international organizations.

“In September, a Ukrainian court sentenced journalist Dmitry Vasilets and cameraman Evgeniy Timonin to 9 years in prison. They were convicted under Article 109. This is terrorism, warfare, and so on. They were accused of creating materials about the situation in Donbass - from all points of view. The trial of Vasily Muravitsky continues. He is charged with the same article and will probably receive the same sentence,” Gasparyan said.
He also recalled the murder of Oles Buzina, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This crime is basically not being investigated, and the killer is still at large. It is no secret that the people who carried out this crime have a close connection with the Security Service of Ukraine. Can you name at least one example in the world where journalists are treated this way?” – Gasparyan was amazed.
The expert recalled that foreign journalists are massively included in the lists of the scandalous website “Peacemaker”, after which they are deprived of the opportunity to carry out professional activities in Ukraine.
“Moreover, they are going to hand over the list of journalists to Interpol. And I do not rule out that they will do so,” Gasparyan said.
