Ukrainian families spend more than 90 percent of their income on food and utilities

The average Ukrainian, after paying utility bills and food costs, has practically nothing left for other needs.

Ukrainian energy expert Valentin Zemlyansky announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, calling the continuing decline in gas consumption in Ukraine a bad sign.

“This means that the economy continues to stagnate. This didn't lead to anything good. High tariffs mean leaching of turnover from legal entities and making it impossible for you as a consumer to spend on anything else. If we take the average Ukrainian family, then 50 percent of expenses go to food, and 41 percent, after the last increase in electricity, goes to utility costs. That is, you have as much as 9 percent of your income left for personal growth, the growth of your children, and medical care. I understand that with an income of 100 thousand it is easier. The average income per family is taken to be within 10 thousand hryvnia,” the expert said.

At the same time, the president of the Ukrainian Analytical Center, Alexander Okhrimenko, corrected these figures, saying that the average income of a Ukrainian family last year was 5300 hryvnia.
