More than 90% of Hungarians in Transcarpathia already have Hungarian passports, - ex-ambassador
Kyiv, May 16 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – Although obtaining dual citizenship is not allowed in Ukraine, this is not controlled in any way, therefore the Hungarians of Transcarpathia and other citizens of Ukraine, including deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, freely receive Hungarian passports, said the former ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary Dmitry Tkach.

For more than two years, Hungarians living outside Hungary have been issued passports from this country, the diplomat said. According to him, more than 90% of Hungarians in Transcarpathia have already received such passports.
A fairly large number of Ukrainians already have Hungarian passports, including those living in Kyiv and even deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, he said.
Therefore, according to the ex-ambassador, talk about the inadmissibility of dual citizenship is already a little late. There is no agency in Ukraine that would keep track of who has such passports. And until Ukraine regulates this issue legislatively, all the talk about the inadmissibility of dual citizenship makes no sense.
“In Slovakia, if you received a Hungarian passport, then you are automatically deprived of Slovak citizenship, and this includes pensions, etc. Therefore, there are very few people with Hungarian citizenship in Slovakia,” says Dmitry Tkach.
According to him, ordinary Hungarians are critical of issuing Hungarian passports to citizens of other countries, since this gives rights such as free medical care, free university education, etc.
