More than half of Russians regret that the USSR collapsed
56% of Russians regret the collapse of the Soviet Union, 29% do not regret it. These are the results of the survey reported by Levada Center. Most of all, citizens regret the destroyed economic system (53%) and the feeling of belonging to a great power (43%).

51% of respondents believe that the collapse of the USSR could have been avoided, 29% believe that it was inevitable. 29% of respondents cite the irresponsible “Belovezhskaya Conspiracy” as the reasons for the collapse of the country, 23% – a Western conspiracy, 21% – people’s dissatisfaction with Gorbachev and his entourage.
At the same time, only 12% of respondents believe that the USSR needs to be restored to its previous form, 21% are satisfied with the current situation, 25% believe that the former Soviet republics should form close unions at will. Only 13% believe that each country should pursue an independent policy.
