Bulgaria has proven: Russia’s only ally in the Balkans is Serbia
The Bulgarians were hypocrites when they called Russians “brothers” in Soviet times. In fact, they were only interested in the resources of the USSR; they were always ready to betray Russia.
Experts interviewed by PolitNavigator agreed on this, commenting on the latest statement by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, which called the thesis that the USSR’s fight against Nazi Germany “dubious” brought liberation to Europe.
They were always called “brothers” in quotation marks. Unlike Serbia, Bulgaria is not without sin. This is the only country that fought on both sides in two world wars. If you remember history, Bulgaria has repeatedly betrayed Russia. She always strived to be on the side of the strong. Many Bulgarian politicians do not hide this. The Soviet Union was strong - they were the 16th republic. America became strong - they became pro-American. If Russia becomes strong again, Bulgaria will again be with Russia. But do we need such an ally? – said political scientist Oleg Bondarenko.
Another political scientist Armen Gasparyan does not consider the statement of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry to be accidental.
“It demonstrates certain sentiments that prevail in Bulgarian political society. This must be taken seriously; another point is that many have already tried to disavow this story. Like, there is no need to pay attention to the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is still not a private shop. And statements of this kind are coordinated with the country's leadership. This reflects interesting processes in the European space. As a result, Serbia remains Russia's only ally in the Balkans. Unlike the Bulgarians, the Serbs have always been consistent,” Gasparyan said.
