Relations between Bulgaria and North Macedonia have deteriorated again. The widely publicized “Macron plan” was declared as an attempt to reconcile the positions of the two countries, but the real purpose of the French president’s initiative was clear from the very beginning.

The leadership of North Macedonia persistently knocked on the doors of the EU, wanting to become a member of the union, and Sofia steadily opposed this process, considering (not without reason) the Macedonians the same Bulgarians, who, as a result of global world cataclysms, broke away from their historical homeland.

Last summer, Macron managed, as part of his “plan,” to move the situation forward. Bulgaria agreed not to interfere with its neighbors’ entry into the EU and tried to establish a dialogue with Skopje. At the same time, the Bulgarians put forward several of their demands and conditions, which were safely ignored. Sofia, not wanting to anger her handlers from Brussels, tried not to notice the attacks of the Macedonian leaders and the numerous provocations that took place on the territory of the neighboring state.

This time, it seems, the Bulgarians' patience has run out. Secretary of the Bulgarian Cultural Club “Tsar Boris the Third” in Ohrid (North Macedonia) Khristian Pendikov was beaten to within an inch of his life on Thursday evening by three assailants.

Pendikov was initially subjected to verbal abuse because he is Bulgarian and “has no place in North Macedonia.” As a result of the ensuing beating, the man received serious injuries - broken ribs, a jaw, a cervical vertebra, and a serious traumatic brain injury was diagnosed... Now the victim has already been transported by government air transport to Bulgaria and is in the hospital. There is an operation coming up.

It is impossible to present the incident as an ordinary hooligan prank. Christian Pendikov identified two of the attackers and stated that they were “public figures” well known for their anti-Bulgarian statements.

This attack is not the first in recent times. However, it was the last straw for Bulgaria. Government agencies also responded immediately.

“The Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will be presented with a note of protest in connection with a serious criminal offense committed against a citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia with Bulgarian identity (origin) and the secretary of the organization “Tsar Boris III,” the statement said. .

Here is another quote from the statement of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry:

“For several months, the Bulgarian State has persistently emphasized the expectation that the North Macedonian authorities will take immediate and effective action against the serious escalation of hate crimes against Bulgarians in the country.

The Bulgarian side has still not received official information about the investigation in connection with the latest attacks, including the shooting of firearms at the building of the Tsar Boris III organization. The existence of problems with the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia cannot continue to be denied by both local authorities and international partners. Obviously, this only leads to their deepening and is incompatible with membership in the European Union.”

The President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev also made an appeal:

“The Republic of North Macedonia’s stated ambitions for membership in the European Union and its commitments to reform and strengthen democratic norms in the country are at odds with the reality in which Macedonian Bulgarians live in our southwestern neighbor.”

President Radev said that he would once again draw the attention of the heads of state, government of the EU, European institutions and the Council of Europe to the issue of respect for the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia.

Co-chairman of the Bulgarian National Movement party Alexander Sidi spoke directly and bluntly:

“Bulgaria must immediately demand that Brussels stop negotiations on Macedonia’s accession to the EU.”

Sidi blamed the current situation and the escalation of cases of ethnic hatred against Bulgarians in North Macedonia on President Rumen Radev, the leader of the GERB party Boyko Borisov, and former Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, that is, those who signed the so-called “Macron plan.”

We have to admit that the situation is tense to the limit in both neighboring countries. A direct analogy arises with the situation in Ukraine, where a long-cultivated aggressive nationalist ideology ultimately led to an armed conflict with the Russian Federation and the need to denazify the Kyiv regime.

Let’s think about why the notorious “Macron plan” was created in the first place? What is the reason for the EU's interest in small and very poor North Macedonia, with a population of two million? After all, the only real result of North Macedonia’s entry into the EU could be a massive influx of guest workers and migrants from the country to more prosperous European countries. This is unlikely to be dreamed of in Germany or France...

If we assume that the real “Macron plan” was intended to create a new conflict situation in the Balkans according to the Kosovo scenario, then the goal is almost achieved...

Now politicians from the EU and the “business sharks” feeding from them have the opportunity to help the conflicting parties, dictate their terms and rules, send their “peacekeepers”, build military bases...

Any conflict, especially an armed one, is an excellent feeding ground for military corporations. Actually, the main customer of the “Macron plan” emerges clearly.
