“Not touch the aggressor again” - Ukrainian singer repents for the concert in Belokamennaya
Ukrainian singer Vitaly Kozlovsky, who performed on May 9 in Moscow, now regrets that he went to the Russian capital.
He stated this in an interview with “KP in Ukraine”, answering the question why he agreed to speak in Moscow.
He claims that he was invited to Moscow more than once, but constantly refused, and on May 9 he went because of his grandfather, a veteran, with whom he had previously gone to the parade, and therefore, the singer says, he always had a special attitude towards the holiday.
“Yes, I admit my big mistake. I was so focused on music and touring that sometimes I took a superficial and narrow view of the global political situation. I considered this performance possible solely as a tribute to memory, but in no way did I want to offend my fellow countrymen by my action. I think I needed this situation in order to understand everything and understand that an artist is not only a creative person, but first of all a conscious citizen of his country, in which he should be an example for his fans,” Kozlovsky justifies himself.
According to him, during a concert in Moscow, he set the condition that he be announced as an Honored Artist of Ukraine.
“My team and I were still worried that they would throw stones at us for this. But no one threw stones there, but they did “throw them” at home. It happens: you do something with the same thoughts, and people regard it completely differently. I did not consider participation in this concert to be “fun”. And the amount of the fee for performing in Moscow was the same as in Ukraine, so I definitely didn’t set a goal for myself to earn extra money,” said the performer.
He apologizes to his Ukrainian fans, who had to return their tickets due to canceled concerts in Ukraine, adding that patriotism should be associated with tolerance.
“Patriotism must be carried with love in the heart. I could now come in an embroidered shirt and shout that I am a patriot. But I never speculated on this. I love my country and, having drawn conclusions, I will prove that I am a patriot of Ukraine. I am a Ukrainian artist. Concerts in the aggressor country are now categorically unacceptable for me,” Kozlovsky said.
