More than a hundred thousand Ukrainians have already become Poles and the process is underway
From 2008 to 2017, 101 citizens of Ukraine received a Pole card, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Such data was provided to the Polish Foreign Ministry, Polish Radio reports.
Since 2008, as a rule, 8,5-10 thousand Ukrainian citizens received a Pole card every year. During 2016-2017, there was an increase in the number of documents issued to citizens of Ukraine - more than 13 thousand annually.
In the first half of 2018, Polish consular offices in Ukraine have already accepted more than 7,2 thousand applications from Ukrainian citizens for a Pole card, which is almost 1000 more than in the same period in 2017.
Over the course of 10 years, until June 2018, 1248 Ukrainian citizens were denied a Pole card.
In general, from 2008 to June 2018, citizens of Belarus received the most Pole cards (almost 120 thousand). In addition, more than 6000 cards were issued to citizens of Russia, more than 3000 of Kazakhstan, more than 1700 of Moldova, 605 of Uzbekistan, 132 of Azerbaijan, 95 of Armenia, 65 of Turkmenistan.
A Pole's card is a document confirming that a person belongs to the Polish people outside their historical homeland. The purpose of obtaining the document is considered to be the need to support Polish citizens and their descendants in the countries formed after the collapse of the USSR.
Holders of a Pole card have a number of benefits in Poland. In particular, we are talking about a simplified procedure for obtaining a document to stay in Poland, as well as an accelerated procedure for obtaining citizenship of the country, receiving benefits when entering Polish universities, traveling on public transport, etc.
