More than a third of the piles of the Kerch Bridge have already been driven - minister
The opening of working traffic on the road part of the Kerch Bridge is planned until December 2018, on the railway part - in 2019. Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov reported on this today at a meeting of the State Council.

“Now is the most active phase of the construction of the bridge: it is being built simultaneously along its entire length in eight sections, piles are being driven on land and in the water area, and supports for both the road and railway parts of this bridge are being formed. In total, just over 7 thousand piles will be driven, of which almost 2500 have already been loaded to the design marks. 116 towers out of 595 planned have been completed, and another 138 towers are currently in the works. The installation of the spans of this bridge is already underway on the land sections,” Sokolov said.
The length of the Kerch Bridge is 19 km, the automobile part is 4 lanes, the estimated speed on the road is up to 120 km per hour, and the throughput capacity is 40 thousand cars per day. The railway component is two tracks with a capacity of at least 50 pairs of trains per day, the design speed for passenger trains is 80 km per hour.
About three thousand builders from different regions of Russia are taking part in the work, more than six million tons of various cargo have been shipped. Three working bridges with a total length of more than 7 km, two technological bridges and 30 km of temporary roads were built.
On the approaches from Taman, construction is underway on a four-lane first category highway, the same as the bridge, with a total length of 40 km. In October, design and survey work on the 9 km long approach from the Crimea will be completed. The opening of working traffic along this section of the approaches on the Kerch coast is also planned for December 2018.
