Local television channel Faro TV showed dozens of people climbing a six-meter fence, from where they were removed using cranes. Only two Moroccans who were injured were taken to hospitals in Ceuta. Others were sent back to Morocco.
Five Spanish and 50 Moroccan police were injured during clashes with local residents who stormed the border using stones and metal rods. In early December 2016, an attempt by about 400 people to cross the border into Ceuta was successful.
In addition to direct assault on border fortifications, many potential migrants are trying to enter the territory of the Spanish exclave by water.
