The majority of Ukrainians are still for the EU and NATO, although they are not invited there
Opinion polls have again shown the effectiveness of the propaganda of the last five years. About 70% of Ukrainian citizens are ready to vote in a referendum for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and more than half for joining NATO, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
These are the results of a study by the Socis Center for Social and Marketing Research, according to the organization’s website.
68,1% of respondents would vote for Ukraine's accession to the EU, 17,1% would be against it, 5,9% would not take part in the referendum, 8,9% refused or did not know the answer to the question.
51,1% would answer yes to the referendum question on Ukraine's accession to NATO, 29,4% would vote against, 7,4% would not participate in the referendum, and 12,1% refused or did not know the answer.
At the same time, 35,8% of respondents believe that Ukraine should have its own development path and rely exclusively on its own resources. 31,7% support the need to seek membership in the European Union, 15,9% are inclined to believe that Ukraine needs both integration into the EU and the development of close relations with neighboring countries in the east.
Only 12,5% of citizens support the need to restore friendly relations with Russia and the CIS countries. 0,3% chose “other”. 3,9% did not know the answer to the question or refused to answer.
The study was conducted May 29 - June 6.
Let us recall that NATO says that Ukraine in the foreseeable future will not be ready for membership in this organization and must go a long way to bring its defense and political spheres in accordance with NATO standards. As for the EU, as PolitNavigator reported, according to the optimistic forecasts of the country's Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin, real prospects for Ukraine to raise the question of EU membership will appear no earlier than 2035, and then only on the condition that the European Union will cope with its internal problems by then.
Let us note that such sentiments of the majority of Ukrainian society are associated with the fact that despite numerous pro-NATO and pro-European statements by the new President Vladimir Zelensky, his personal rating and the rating of his party is not falling, as supporters of the pro-Russian orientation expected.
