The majority of Kirovograd residents want to return the city’s “imperial” name – Elisavetgrad
Elisavetgrad was chosen as the new name for their city by 51% of Kirovograd residents who took part in a survey on the city’s official website.

Kirovograd is subject to renaming as part of the decommunization law, and local authorities decided to find out which new name is the most attractive to citizens. For this purpose, a thematic survey was posted on the official website of the mayor’s office. Among the options offered were Elisavetgrad (this was the original name of the city when it was founded), Zlatopol, Ingulsk, Blagomir, Kropivnitsky, Skifopol, Novokazachyn, Slavyanopol and others.
The option “Elisetgrad” was preferred by 51% of survey participants, the second most popular name was “Zlatopol” (23% of respondents), 16% of Kirovograd residents would like to see their city “Ingulsky”. All other options received less than three percent of the votes of survey participants.
It is interesting that after the voting was completed, the voting results were removed from the official website of the Kirovograd City Hall, although they remained on partner sites that also hosted the voting form.
