Most Russians don’t care about Zelensky – opinion poll
Citizens of the Russian Federation demonstrate high skepticism regarding the figure of the new Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted in December joint social research Center for Political Conjuncture and VTsIOM.
Only 9% of Russians declared a positive attitude towards Zelensky. The majority of Russian residents (35%) know nothing about his activities and do not have any opinion about him. 29% of Russians treat the Ukrainian leader with indifference, while 21% of respondents have a negative attitude.
A positive attitude towards Zelensky prevails among young people (from 19 to 24 years old) - 19%. Only 3% of respondents in this age group have a negative view of Zelensky. At the same time, in this same group the largest number of those who are indifferent to Zelensky is 40%. On the contrary, representatives of the older generation have the worst attitude towards the head of the Ukrainian state. 58% of respondents aged 45 years and older have a negative attitude towards Zelensky
The Ukrainian president is viewed best in Moscow and St. Petersburg (12% each) and in other cities with a population of over a million, as well as in cities with a population of 100 to 500 thousand people (13%). A negative attitude towards the figure of the Ukrainian leader prevails in rural areas - 25%.
The survey also recorded that Zelensky’s work as president did not lead to changes in the attitude of Russians towards Ukraine.
The balance of positive and negative changes in attitude towards Ukraine turned out to be zero. The number of those whose attitude towards Ukraine improved and the number of those whose attitude towards Ukraine worsened turned out to be equal and amounted to 11%. The overwhelming majority of Russians (74%) have remained unchanged in their attitude towards Ukraine.
The greatest increase in positive attitudes is observed among men - 16% and among representatives of the younger generation - 20%. Also, this trend is best visible in Moscow and St. Petersburg - 14%. Most of the respondents who changed their attitude towards Ukraine for the worse were in the oldest age group of 60 and above (18%).
67% of respondents believe that Russian-Ukrainian relations have not changed during the tenure of the new Ukrainian president. 16% were optimists who believe that relations between Russia and Ukraine have rather improved. 9% of Russians became pessimists who saw relations deteriorating. At the same time, positive changes are seen primarily by men (22%) and youth (27%).
