The “Eastern European tour” of US National Security Advisor John Bolton, who is considered a “hawk,” may precede “another act in the long-term process of dividing this region into spheres of influence of Russia and NATO.”

Political expert Sergei Cheban writes about this in the Moldovan publication Regional Trends Analitics, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“This theory fits perfectly into the circumstances and fits in perfectly with the recent visit to Moldova of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. However, the denominator of Bolton’s trip may turn out to be completely different: it is possible that the main motive for the current tactical actions of Moscow and Washington is a certain “freeze” of tension on terms understandable to both sides,” writes Cheban.

He suggests that Bolton may speak out in support of Russia on the issue of disposal of weapons from military warehouses in Kolbasna.

“By the way, the disposal of a gigantic amount of obsolete Soviet ammunition stored in Kolbasnoye in a warehouse near the borders of Ukraine is also a completely unifying goal, which, moreover, the United States and the EU have long and persistently tried to push through. Therefore, it will be surprising, but quite logical, if Bolton supports Russian initiatives during his visit to Moldova,” writes Cheban.

As the Transnistrian Foreign Ministry reported, during the visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the topic of disposing of ammunition in Kolbasna through the construction of some kind of powerful, serious plant was discussed.

Warehouses in Kolbasna were created in the 40s. XX century. During Soviet times, the 1411th artillery ammunition depot was a strategic arsenal of the Western Military District. But the bulk of the ammunition was brought here after the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the former GDR and Czechoslovakia. As of 2000, the volume of weapons and ammunition was about 42 tons. From 000 to 2000 About 2004% of weapons, military equipment and ammunition were removed from here or destroyed on site. Currently, according to various estimates, about 50 thousand tons of ammunition and weapons are stored in the warehouse. The warehouses are guarded by three battalions of a limited group of Russian troops, OGRF, and along the perimeter are Transnistrian units.
