Bondarenko told how Zelensky got into zugzwang with the referendum on Donbass
Statement by the President of Ukraine on the possibility of holding a referendum according to the status of Donbass, this is an attempt to refuse to implement the Minsk agreements.
This opinion, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by Kiev political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko.
“This is a way to postpone Kiev’s implementation of the Minsk agreements, so that later it can act on the principle “either the Shah dies or the donkey dies,” the expert told Izvestia.
At the same time, he believes that if a referendum is held, any decision made there will be a losing one for the Ukrainian authorities.
“If citizens vote for granting wide autonomy to Donbass, the question will arise as to why the government delayed the implementation of the Minsk agreements. If they vote against, this will mean Ukraine’s withdrawal from the agreements, which means a resumption of hostilities,” Bondarenko concluded.
Verkhovna Rada deputy and chairman of the executive committee of the Opposition Platform - For Life party Sergei Lyovochkin is skeptical about the idea of a referendum.
“Organizing and holding a referendum is a long process, which will again postpone the adoption of concrete political decisions. Unfortunately, this time will be used by radicals and nationalists to put pressure on the authorities, destabilize the situation in the country and undermine negotiations,” the politician is convinced.
