Kyiv’s struggle with Nord Stream 2 turned out to be a huge “cut”
All of Ukraine’s hysteria against Nord Stream 2 is nothing more than a fiction, since Kiev initially understood that the project would be launched.
Ukrainian expert on energy issues Dmitry Marunich said this on the YouTube channel “Capital”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“Why has the story of Nord Stream 2 become so widespread? Because certain subjects, in particular part of the deputy corps of the former “BPP”, Klimkin, all these Eliseevs, who, by the way, remains in power now, Zerkal, which is about to resign, she dealt with Klimkin’s gas issue, directly the leadership of “Naftogaz”, which added so much fuel to this fire - they fueled this whole propaganda campaign against Nord Stream 2.
Why: Because it was a convenient target for criticism. Moreover, the Americans actively opposed it, and the only option left to at least slightly kill “SP-2” (because it will be built, but its commissioning can still be delayed) is to introduce American sanctions. Then part of the company from the consortium’s contractors - of course, they will be forced to curtail their activities, and the consortium will have to look for other subcontractors, these are obvious things.
But again, if by the time of these sanctions, which may still be introduced, there is still something left to build, maybe everything will be built quickly. That is, it will be built, this is obvious. US sanctions can only delay the launch of this pipeline for a non-critical period,” the expert said.
“Since it was successful for criticism, and here the interests of the United States coincided with the interests of Ukraine, the subjects in Kyiv raised this to the banner of the propaganda struggle and successfully spent tens of millions of hryvnia. I hope the audit will still be carried out and they will figure out where the money went. In last year’s financial plan alone, Naftogaz provided at least 2 million hryvnia for the fight against Nord Stream 60.
A simple question arises: what did you guys spend on? Firstly, did they spend - on what, how much specifically. Why was this money spent, because it was clear that it would be built, guys. You just spent money from the tariff. That’s why they fought against Nord Stream 2,” added Marunich.
