“The fight against communism” will entail billions of dollars in spending from Ukraine’s leaky budget
Kyiv, April 11 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – Renaming Soviet street names, which follows from the law banning communist symbols adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, will cost the Ukrainian budget no less than 5 billion UAH. Former Minister of Revenue and Duties of Ukraine Alexander Klimenko stated this on his page on the social network.

According to him, these are the most conservative estimates, which in fact can reach the state budget deficit of UAH 9 billion.
“There are 459 cities in Ukraine, and in each of them, on average, 30 streets have names associated with the Soviet past. The total cost of renaming will be more than 413 million UAH. Plus 885 urban-type settlements, where, say, 10 streets are subject to renaming. This is another 265,5 million UAH. Plus 28 villages on 450 streets - 5 billion 4 million. Total - at least 267 billion hryvnia,” says Klimenko.
In addition, after the renaming, according to the minister, all organizations, both private and public, without exception, that were located on these streets will have to change their charter documents, registration certificates, and seals. And this is an additional cost of both time and money.
