Ukraine has failed to win the fight for Russian gas transit to the European Union, despite low tariffs.

This conclusion was reached by the head of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andrey Kobolev, who was quoted by the Kiev magazine “New Time”.

“I always smile when they say that we will compete with Nord Stream 2 with tariffs and different conditions. The fight is already lost. When Nord Stream 1 was built, Ukraine had the lowest tariffs of all European countries. And yet, the volumes of gas that went through Nord Stream 1 were transferred from our system,” Kobolev laments.

As PolitNavigator reported, recently the influential Kiev weekly Zerkalo Nedeli wrote that Ukraine's war against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is lost, and the bet on US sanctions did not work.

At the same time, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko asserts that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is being built only forto leave the Ukrainian army without funding.
