According to him, about 40% of beaches remain closed again this year.
“We are now seeing a classic picture of the revenge of the beach barons, who, despite what was achieved last year by the Council of Ministers and municipal authorities, who helped in dismantling fences and gates, now 40% of the territories are blocked. Specific people and organizations are interested in this; they receive rent from the beaches and block them completely illegally. What we see now is a concrete attempt to deprive Crimeans and vacationers of access to the shore,” Garnachuk said.
At the same time, according to him, often during the demolition of fences, public activists together with local authorities receive calls from “from above” with demands to leave this or that object alone.
“There was a list provided by the Minister of Resorts and Tourism, which was far from complete. Because when we were demolishing, there were calls that these fences should not be touched, because there were serious people behind them. And even we, using the administrative resource that we had, could not overcome this. This was the case with the “Consol”, which is located in the Nikitsky Botanical Garden, and this was the case with the sanatoriums in Gaspra - the fences were restored there again, for example, in the Dnepr sanatorium. These things need to be said,” the social activist added.
